Aquatic Microbiology
Our research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms behind the remarkable biosynthetic capabilities of microalgae (single-celled algae) and apply this knowledge to develop novel products for biotechnological, medical, and nanotechnological applications. Additionally, we seek to understand the molecular interactions among microalgae themselves and between microalgae and other microorganisms. Specifically, we focus on coccolithophores, which is a group of algae that is key to ocean ecosystems and renowned for their intricate cell walls composed of calcium carbonate scales called coccoliths.
To this end, we use biochemical, molecular genetic, and imaging methods
